  • Plant Food Company Grows Profits Through Reduced Shipping Costs

    10/16/2012 — Scott Frederick

Plant Food CompanyOne of our senior account representatives (or "SAR" as we like to call them) shared a story with me a few days ago about a southwestern plant food company that recently completed a PartnerShip free, no-obligation freight analysis form in hopes of saving more money on their LTL freight shipping.

Instead of shipping to distributors as this company has done in the past, their hope was to sell direct to large lawn and garden dealerships outside of their home state.  They were investigating LTL freight rates from us and another well-known 3PL.

After we completed our analysis, we found that could easily save this company money on their mid-sized LTL shipments, but unfortunately, we could not save them additional money on their large (>4,000 lbs.) LTL shipments.  Our SAR reminded the customer that PartnerShip has alliances with only nationally recognized carriers, that offer top-tier $25/lb. liability coverage, and that we have no minimum shipping commitments or obligations. So our recommendation was to take advantage of the PartnerShip freight rates on small and mid-size shipments, but to continue using their current provider for larger shipments to maximize their overall savings.

I am happy to say, based on all of these factors - including the professional sales approach taken by our SAR -- this plant food company is now a PartnerShip customer.

  • What are Your Shipping Supply options?

    10/10/2012 — Scott Frederick

ShippingSuppliesAs it relates to shipping and packaging supplies, there are many choices in the marketplace. Seemingly everyone from FedEx to the USPS to wholesale shipping supply companies has a deal for small businesses. On top of that, there are so many types of packaging products - like boxes, envelopes, wraps, tags, tapes, cushions, drums, cartons, etc. - it's hard to know what and where to buy what you really need.

To narrow your list of choices, first analyze your shipping and volume needs. Here are some points to consider:

    • How complicated or valuable is my product?

    • How much material will I need for each shipment?

    • How much volume do I plan on shipping?

    • How important is packaging and shipping to my company's success?

    • How complicated is it to order and source the shipping supplies I need?

If you ship low quantities and your packaging is not all that critical to your success, you might consider contacting FedEx, UPS or the USPS. All of these express package companies offer some free basic shipping supplies, such as boxes, envelopes, mailers.

If you do a considerable amount of shipping or have special packaging material needs, you will probably want to check out some of the national shipping supply firms like Uline, eSupplyStore or PackagingSupplies.com. All of these companies can provide good prices on larger quantities of shipping supplies, as well as options for unique material needs.

If your shipping and packaging needs fall somewhere in between the options outlined above, then your best bet will be to find a trusted shipping partner or vendor who can provide you with a good recommendation on where to find low-cost shipping supplies with smaller distributors or retailers.

No matter what path you go down, be sure to compare prices before your buy, make sure you understand how much you will be charges for "shipping and handling" on your orders, and find a partner that has an quick and easy online ordering process for replenishment of your supplies.

PartnerShip is pleased to announce that - coming soon - we will be able to offer our customers with a new option to purchase basic shipping supplies such as boxes, mailers, tape, and tape guns. We promise that our volume requirements will be low, our prices will be competitive, our shipping charges will be "at cost," and our online ordering tools will be easy-to-use. Stay tuned for more information over the next couple weeks! To request more information now, please click here.
