UPS raises charges for some services in 2005
October 28, 2004

United Parcel Service Inc., the world's largest package carrier, said on Thursday it will raise rates for some services on Jan. 3, 2005.

It said rates for its UPS Ground, UPS Next Day Air, UPS 2nd Day Air, UPS 3 Day Select and U.S. international services will increase 2.9 percent, while rates for UPS Hundredweight Service will increase by 5.9 percent. There will be no changes to most retail rates offered at its UPS Stores, the company said.

UPS will also cut the fuel surcharge currently applied to UPS Next Day Air, UPS 2nd Day Air and UPS 3 Day Select and international services in January, by setting a maximum cap of 9.5 percent, it said.

A fuel surcharge of 2 percent on UPS Ground, UPS Ground Hundredweight and UPS Standard To Canada will be applied, which will fluctuate after January based on the U.S. Energy Department's On-Highway Diesel price, UPS said.
