Shipping News Overnite Transportation Announces Rate Increase for 2003

Richmond, Virginia—The ground transportation industry, like other industries, has been affected deeply by the current economic conditions. As a result, many trucking companies, truckload and less-than-truckload (LTL), will be announcing general rate increases within the next few months. Overnite Transportation has just announced that they will increase their standard shipping rates by 5.9% effective June 23, 2003. Overnite states that the increase in rates is a direct result of significant increases in health care, insurance and security costs that Overnite is unable to absorb while continuing to provide their high level of service in the industry. Although the rates will be going up, Overnite believes that their rates will still be considered one of the most competitive in the industry once other carriers take their rate increases as well.
