FedEx Corp on September 30 announced plans to invest $1.8 Billion into FedEx Ground over the next six years. FedEx's goal is to nearly double their daily package volume by the summer of 2009. The expansion plan for FedEx Ground would increase their daily capacity to handle packages from 2.5 million to 4.8 million a day. The expansion of their system will include the addition of 10 new and 23 expanded central distribution hubs. FedEx Ground will also expand or relocate more than 300 existing facilities as well.
Consolidated Freightways (CF) has been winding down their operations since their announced closure on September 2, 2002. As of October 1, CF has stated that they have delivered 96% of the shipments that were stuck in their system as a result of the shutdown. Most of the terminal operations have closed and most of the people still working are at their Vancouver, WA headquarters. CF customers who have outstanding claims and shipping charge discrepancies should contact CF at their headquarters at (800) 543-9942.
